Hyderabad: BRS MLC Kavitha on Thursday urged the state government to reconsider its proposal to install the statue of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in front of the Dr BR Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat at the place designated by the previous BRS government for the statue of Telangana Talli. .

He said that although he has utmost respect for the former Prime Minister, it would be disrespectful to replace the Telangana Talli statue with Gandhi’s statue.


In a letter to Telangana Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy, Kavitha sought permission to make a special mention in the council as Telangana Talli is extremely important to the people of Telangana and installing his statue is a way to honor the rich cultural heritage of the state. There is a way and pride. He urged the State Government to give priority to the installation of the statue of Telangana Talli in front of the Secretariat and respect the sentiments of the people of Telangana.

In a separate petition, BRS MLC raised the issue of non-implementation of Minimum Support Price (MSP) to groundnut farmers in Achampet and Nagar Kurnool agriculture market yards. He said that despite the fixed MSP of Rs 6,377 per quintal, middlemen were purchasing groundnut crop from farmers at a lower rate of Rs 4,000-5,000 per quintal. He sought discussion in the council to eliminate the system of middlemen in market yards and ensure fair compensation to farmers for their hard work.
