Patna: In a historic move, the six-party Grand Alliance government led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in Bihar on Thursday handed over appointment letters to over 1.20 lakh school teachers, in what the government described as the largest mass distribution of documents so far. While 25,000 newly appointed teachers were given appointment letters at a grand function held at Gandhi Maidan in Patna, the rest were given appointment letters at similar functions held in different districts.

The government said that out of the total 1,20,336 appointments made by the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC), 70,545 were primary teachers and 26,089 were secondary school teachers, while the remaining 23,702 were higher secondary teachers.



It is noteworthy that 48 percent (or 57,854) of the total appointments are women teachers, which highlights the focus of the state government on women empowerment.

The government said that many of the appointees are those who were earlier working in various positions in Oman and Qatar or were employed in the Indian Army, paramilitary forces, railways and multinational companies. Some of them also worked in convent schools and central schools.
